![]() In the 2000s, the application of cloud computing began to take shape with the establishment of Amazon Web Services in 2002, which allowed developers to build applications independently. As a result, Compaq decided to sell server hardware to internet service providers. The business plan foresaw that online consumer file storage would most likely be commercially successful. The company's ambition was to supercharge sales with "cloud computing-enabled applications". The expression cloud computing became more widely known in 1996 when the Compaq Computer Corporation drew up a business plan for future computing and the Internet. This metaphor is credited to David Hoffman, a General Magic communications employee, based on its long-standing use in networking and telecom. The use of the "cloud" metaphor to denote virtualized services traces back to 1994, when it was used by General Magic to describe the universe of "places" that mobile agents in the Telescript environment could go. This was a time of exploration and experimentation with ways to make large-scale computing power available to more users through time-sharing, optimizing the infrastructure, platform, and applications, and increasing efficiency for end users. The "data center" model, where users submitted jobs to operators to run on mainframes, was predominantly used during this era. Ĭloud computing has a rich history that extends back to the 1960s, with the initial concepts of time-sharing becoming popularized via Remote Job Entry (RJE). Resource usage can be monitored, controlled, and reported, providing transparency for both the provider and consumer of the utilized service. Cloud systems automatically control and optimize resource use by leveraging a metering capability at some level of abstraction appropriate to the type of service (e.g., storage, processing, bandwidth, and active user accounts). To the consumer, the capabilities available for provisioning often appear unlimited and can be appropriated in any quantity at any time. Capabilities can be elastically provisioned and released, in some cases automatically, to scale rapidly outward and inward commensurate with demand. The provider's computing resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers using a multi-tenant model, with different physical and virtual resources dynamically assigned and reassigned according to consumer demand. Capabilities are available over the network and accessed through standard mechanisms that promote use by heterogeneous thin or thick client platforms (e.g., mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and workstations). A consumer can unilaterally provision computing capabilities, such as server time and network storage, as needed automatically without requiring human interaction with each service provider. The United States National Institute of Standards and Technology's definition of cloud computing identifies "five essential characteristics": Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and typically uses a pay-as-you-go model, which can help in reducing capital expenses but may also lead to unexpected operating expenses for users. ![]() Large clouds often have functions distributed over multiple locations, each of which is a data center. ![]() For the horse, see Cloud Computing (horse).Ĭloud computing metaphor: the group of networked elements providing services does not need to be addressed or managed individually by users instead, the entire provider-managed suite of hardware and software can be thought of as an amorphous cloud.Ĭloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage ( cloud storage) and computing power, without direct active management by the user.

![]() Understanding how the queue is generated can help you integrate automatically and manually generated queues. Choose "Clear Up Next" to clear your queue - and potentially start a new automatically generated queue. You will be presented with an option to Keep Up Next or Clear Up Next. You can clear the queue by deciding what you want to listen to next and just tapping episode (but not 3-D pressing). You an also swipe left on a manually added entry, after which you will be presented with the option to delete that episode from the Up Next Queue. You can momentarily tap and hold the hamburger icon to rearrange the manually added episode up and down in your queue. All of the automatically added episodes drop down. So even if you say "Play Later" it just moves to the bottom of the manually added list. Either way you manually add episodes, they appear at the top of the Up Next Queue. Manually added episodes appear in the queue with the "hamburger" icon on the right. At that time, you will be presented with a number of options, including "Play Next," or "Play Later." Both of these options will manually add your episode to your Up Next queue. This can be accomplished by 3-D touching on the episode or tapping "Details" and then pressing the icon with the three purple dots. You can also add episodes to your queue manually. Many people have figured out how to use any dynamic pricing strategy to their maximum benefit. Consumers know that if the demand for a certain product rises, its price will be increased. While such consumers can become hostile to your company because of this, the ones who purchased from you and saved money will come back to you again and again.Ĭlients can beat the system. Disadvantages of Dynamic Pricingĭynamic pricing is not in favor among all consumers. Not every company implements dynamic pricing - clients who do not do enough research to find out about your reduced prices will inevitably pay more, which will make them feel bad. You can control all the changes and maintain a steady flow of your dynamic pricing strategy. Sell the overstock with a discount and raise the prices for products in high demand. Focus on other aspects of your business and look for new sources of revenue instead of worrying about prices. Using the dynamic pricing strategy can help you not to concentrate on keeping your prices stable, as you can change them anytime. Keep track of customers’ behavior, think about the necessary changes, and outrank your competitors by providing a better customer experience at a lower price with dynamic pricing. You can calculate the demand curve for your clients and discover the minimum and maximum price they are ready to pay for a particular product. Monitor and analyze your customers’ behavior and adjust your prices accordingly to earn more.īrands can get more insights into customers’ behavior. You can use dynamic pricing to boost either profits or sales, as lower prices can trigger people to buy more and increase demand. Price changes can trigger sales and increase profits. This strategy can also be used in grocery shops, before events, etc. At the same time, no one needs them in summer, so you can decrease the prices to boost sales. Dynamic pricing is a way to reflect the changes and increase profits by keeping tabs on the number of people interested in certain products.įor example, Christmas decorations are in high demand in December, so it is a great time to increase their prices and earn more. Certain products are in high demand during specific periods and in low demand during others. However, as with every strategy, it has upsides and drawbacks. The primary idea of dynamic pricing is to make businesses more flexible and raise the margin by reacting to customers’ demands. Advantages and Disadvantages of Dynamic Pricing In the next section, we will describe the pros and cons of this pricing strategy. Now you know the key reasons why many brands prefer dynamic pricing over fixed pricing. The market abounds with complex products, so such situations do not come as a surprise. Companies use dynamic pricing strategies to manage a range of pricing alternatives and adjust the prices according to the relative market value. Second, it is challenging to set specific prices based on dynamic parameters. ![]() At the same time, raising prices, catching sales opportunities, and maximizing profits is a better strategy when customer demand is at its peak. The Cetus 3D Printer is a minimalist 3D printer that is constructed from an aluminum body that can be divided into six different modules: the extruder the build platform the main board and the X,Y, and Z axes. When the printer receives the 3D model, it will begin printing your object layer by layer. ![]() Once the model is sliced, you are ready to begin printing, which can be done over SD, Wi-Fi, or USB connection. This is typically done with a separate slicing software, and it should be noted that some printers might require proprietary slicing software. The process of preparing your 3D model for printing is called slicing, which divides the model into a multitude of layers so that a 3D printer can build it from the ground up using additive manufacturing. No matter which route you take to obtain your model, you will need to prepare it for printing. 3D scanners can range from industrial grade to homemade scanners that can be built for around $30, and 3D modeling software is similar in nature, with both costly professional grade programs and free open source programs available. Using a 3D modeling software on your computer or a 3D scanner, a digital file is where the three dimensional printing begins. In this way, 3D printing is a more efficient way of manufacturing while retaining the ability to create complex three-dimensional objects. On the other hand, subtractive manufacturing describes the process of creating an object by cutting out or hollowing out pieces from a block of material. The additive creation process describes the creation of an object through building an object upward with successive layers until the object is complete. ![]() You are likely to find someone who’s had a bad experience with the colour (because it doesn’t relate well to their room) to cast doubt on it for you. If you’ve wisely narrowed down your options based on what looks good with your furniture and finishes, don’t go online to research the colour that your eyes tell you is right. If you’ve been hanging around this blog for a while, you know that it’s a completely random draw if you don’t ground your paint colour choice in what you need it to relate to and what you need it to do for your room.Įven so, it can still be tempting to look online for inspiration and validation, which, most of the time, just confuses the issue. This is also the same reason why the paint colour that is simply ethereal in your neighbour’s home might be just dreadful in yours. However, if you had painted the room above based on this image (below) you would definitely not be happy at this moment. There is a significant amount of reflection from the very red wood floor going on here and often wood trim requires a deeper colour depending on what colour it is.Īnd here is a lovely decorated room painted Pale Oak (below) with the colour repeated in the artwork and decor. It’s looking a bit pasty and well, pink, with the cherry trim in this empty, freshly painted room (below). ![]() Here is BM Pale Oak, a pale greige with a taupe undertone, which is a very popular neutral right now. A paint colour will never be magical without relating well to your furniture, finishes, and décor, no matter what people on Houzz have to say about it. What’s missing when you’re looking up paint colours online is the same thing that’s missing when you’re staring at a paint chip or a freshly painted but empty room:Ĭontext is everything. You’re trying to discern the relative virtues and flaws of this hue you’ve just committed to.ĭo you see a hint of pea soup? A whiff of smog? Weird fleshiness? Is it too dark? Too pasty? Does it fill you with serenity and a sense of well being? Probably not, because how can you be sure it’s right? Now you’re staring at four empty, freshly painted walls, squinting and tilting your head, and turning the lights on and off. So, eventually, after spending days upon hours online researching paint colours, you take the plunge and paint your room the-colour-somebody-on-the-internet declares absolutely foolproof (and we know there’s no such thing right?). ![]() Something you will still need to add to your room once it’s painted. And the room that you are admiring has a look and a feel. However, Joanna Gaines or Laura Bohn (below) have not been to your house. Whoa! Doesn’t that just make you nod your head and want to head directly to the paint store like some kind of decorating zombie?Īnd who doesn’t want high ceilings from a colour that “goes with everything”? It creates this serene atmosphere.” Laura Bohn, paint by Sherwin Williams The darker colour grounds the room, and then the lighter runs right up to the ceiling and makes it feel higher. “These grays are just the calmest thing in the world, and the green in them means they go with everything. Sensible Hue SW 6198 and Aloof Gray SW 6197 We’ve all seen those seductive articles that create mystique around this paint colour or that, like this below: They look to their favorite designers, bloggers, Pinterest and Houzz for help with finding that elusive perfect paint colour.Īnd I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the feature at the beginning of every House Beautiful issue where they list designers favourite paint colours along with the description is their most popular. People constantly poll each other online about their thoughts on this colour or that. They know that if a celebrity designer comes out with a list of their favourite shades of white or grey or fill-in-the-blank-here-paint-colours, that people will grasp onto those brochures and lists like a life raft, and then bottom line, gallons of paint will be sold, which is the whole point right? So I asked Tricia to put together this post so that we could clear this up perhaps more profoundly than I have in previous posts: A clean colour will look bad with a more muted or dirty colour, a dirty colour will make a clean colour look bad, if your trim is too dark and your wall colour is too light, your trim will look dirty, but that same trim with a dark colour will be perfect, the list goes on. Every colour in the world is ugly in the wrong context. There is no such thing as the perfect colour. Tricia and I were talking about a thread on a forum where a designer was very concerned over a paint colour she had just specified for one of her clients when she started searching online and reading what others were saying about the same colour. ![]() Today’s guest post is by Tricia Firmaniuk, my eDesign Director.
